Our first walk - Falls of Clyde
I used to be an avid walker. I have done things like the White Rose Walk in 18 hours, the 3 peaks and so on. Having had a stroke 8 years ago, I was left with a weakness in my left leg which made me wonder if I could ever get back to the hills
Enter my daughter Eilidh. We took her walking low level when we were on holiday last year in Ireland and she loved it. Since then she has pestered us incessantly about getting out and walking. This is the Diary of our exploits.
Today we started with something simple. I have been walking a lot in the last couple of years to build up my leg, sticking mainly to urban areas in case I got into difficulties, so I had no worries in that respect.
Karen has a neck and back injury so we wanted to find out her capabilities. Euan we needed to check to see if he can behave enough being the cheeky 5 year old that he is :D
So our targets for today were to check out Karen and Euan and also let Eilidh test out her new kit!
The Falls of Clyde walk is deceptive. There is a grade 5 climb into the gorge but it is fairly easy walking and perfect as a starter.
Eilidh took some really good pictures. It is hard to believe at the age of 10, she is an accomplished photographer who can take pictures way beyond her age
Overall it went very well. We were slowed by Karens injury but could still walk close to 2 miles an hour which is a good walking speed.
Kids really enjoyed it and both Eilidh and Euan are already at us asking when we can go for the next walk.
Plan now is something a little harder, probably over to Edinburgh to do Arthurs Seat, then Tino before Eilidh and Euan tackle their first Munro with Ben Lomond.
This is going to be interesting :D
